Oral Conscious Sedation

Oral conscious sedation is generally recommended for patients with moderate dental phobia as well as those who can’t receive nitrous oxide or those undergoing more complex or lengthy procedures. Patients are prescribed a small sedative pill that they’re meant to take prior to their appointment so that by the time they’re seated for treatment, its effects have kicked in. Oral conscious sedation instills warm feelings of euphoria and patients often remark that they feel drowsy, but it does not outright put them to sleep and they’re still responsive to verbal stimuli.
Nitrous Oxide Sedation

You’ve probably heard of nitrous oxide referred to by its nickname: laughing gas. However, this sedative doesn’t make patients laugh uncontrollably – if so, it would interfere with dental treatment! Rather, it causes patients to enter a relaxed state that makes it much easier to perform all sorts of procedures, from basic routine care to comprehensive treatments. It’s administered with oxygen through a soft nasal mask, and it’s safe for patients of all ages. It’s most often used for patients with mild dental anxiety.
